Business Time
Well, I’ve been taking it nice and easy for a month, so I think it’s about time I get back to work.
It’s been a great month, though. It started with me relaxing in my Uncle’s garden. His garden is about the most relaxing place in the world for me1. I sat there looking at the flowers, the trees, the pond, and the fire. My brother came down for a visit and showed us what happens when you put magnesium in a fire2. Next, of course, we had a huge party to celebrate my 2nd-cousin-in-law’s birthday, and promptly trimmed the garden for 5 hours the next day3. More relaxing ensued, followed by a trip to Hamburg.
Julian lives in Hamburg4 and Ashley and I were thinking about moving there. The city is wonderful, but I think a bit large for our tastes. We’ve lived in large cities for 7 years now, and it’s wearing on us. That’s not to say it’s off the table, though. Only time will tell5.
Spain was next; it was my first time6. Spain was great. I saw my first cabaret7, and basically the most amazing (and only un-finished) cathedral I have ever seen—La Sagrada Famlia. I met up with friends in Zaragoza8 and relaxed in Madrid9. I also got some opportunity to learn Spanish. As is my ushe10 I really enjoyed attempting to learn as much as I could of the native language. I think I learned more than my other two companions, but that’s not saying much, as I really didn’t know that much Spanish to begin with.
After Spain, we flew to Germany to visit another friend in Konstanz. Since we were so close to Munich11, we had to go to Oktoberfest. Well, we did. It was awesome.
Next, we saw Konstanz and Freiburg; both were lovely cities. Freiburg is actually a really nice town—it’s about the right size, and is the most hippie-ish town in all of Southern Germany12. It looks like a fine place to try living in. The only problem is: the beer could be better13. Then again, is that a problem? Maybe not. The wine is supposed to be great14 and wine has far fewer calories than beer. Let’s see what that mysterious future of might hold!
Now I’m back in Hettstadt, relaxing, having a beer, and getting to all those projects I want to get to. Project #1: report what happened—Check! In the great words of Calvin, “Further bulletins as events warrant!”
1And you can’t beat the beer.
2It glows with the brightness of a million suns!
3…unless you name was “Julian” or “Ashley.”
4Well, near Hamburg. He’s no hamburger.
5The future has a way of being pretty unpredictable.
6Met a friend there, actually, whose first time it was, also.
7I wasn’t expecting full-frontal nudity, but I’m not complaining.
8Debauchery ensued.
9After being on your feet for 8 straight days, the blisters have a way of encouraging you to sit more than walk.
10“Uzh”? “yoozh”? No idea how you spell that.
11And the time was downright perfect.
12At least that we’re aware of.
13Look at that, not even a full month, and I’m already demanding the best…
14Like a fool I didn’t take hint—when you look around and see everyone drinking wine, you should probably try the wine.
